Consumer Alert: Phone Scam Seeking Personal Information

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has issued a consumer alert about a phone scam impacting several state agencies in Ohio (including the Department of Insurance) seeking personal information from Ohioans. As a state agency partner, the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) is sharing information about the scam to help protect Ohioans.
  • In some cases, scammers are posing as ODI staff and are asking for personal information that ODI would never seek over the phone. In addition, some callers are saying they are calling on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or a hospital or other healthcare provider.
  • The callers often have some personal information about the individuals they are calling, making the call seem legitimate.
