Michelle Rafeld has served as the Assistant Director of Fraud and Enforcement for the Ohio Department of Insurance since 2007 and is responsible for overseeing the investigation of unlicensed insurance activities, agent misconduct and insurance fraud.
Rafeld, who earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Dayton, is a former insurance agent and has worked in the insurance industry since 1990. She has more than 27 years of public service and was a Supervisor within the Special Investigations Division of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation before joining the Department.
As part of her duties, Rafeld has actively represented the Department on a number of committees formed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Rafeld has served as Vice Chair of the Title Consumer Shopping Tools Working Group, Vice Chair of the Antifraud Task Force and Chair of the Promoting Appropriate Sales Practices in the Sale Of Life Insurance and Annuities Working Group. She currently Chairs the Antifraud Education and Enhancement Working Group and represents the agency on the Information Systems Task Force, Title Task Force and Annuity Suitability Working Group.
Rafeld is often called upon to offer insight regarding issues and trends related to agent misconduct and insurance fraud, and currently serves on the Healthcare Fraud Prevention Partnership, the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s Law Enforcement Advisory Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.
